Hustle and bustle," that's how the first days in Nova Scotia began. What we didn't expect was to escape from Hurricane Lee! But let's start from the beginning...
We leave Italy heading to Antwerp, Belgium. We carefully pack our home on wheels and hand it over— not without some anxieties— to the shipping company that will take it overseas.
The first days in Nova Scotia were quite eventful. After picking up Freddie, the first thing we did was go to Walmart in Halifax to get the essential groceries. We couldn't afford to fill the van with supplies since all our things were still to be arranged.
Before dark and accompanied by incessant rain, we parked at a spot found on the famous iOverlander app. We were close to downtown but far from the chaos and next to Long Lake. We were ready to spend our very first night in Canada and thus begin our van life adventure.
The next day, we wake up early and start opening all the boxes we had neatly arranged in the "garage." Here, we meet Mike, an English gentleman, with his dog Biscuit—too cool!
We chat for a bit and find out that Hurricane Lee was approaching Halifax. We absolutely had to change our spot.
After thoroughly studying the hurricane's path with the Windy app, we decide to move to Truro, and that's exactly what we did.
We found ourselves at Walmart, far from trees and with essential goods within reach in case things went south. There was an insane wind that made us rock during the night, but thanks to the position we chose between the walls of two large stores, we endured it just fine.
Leaving the hurricane behind us, we decide to head north. During our itinerary, we make a lunch stop at Cape George Lighthouse. Here, we will see our first Canadian lighthouse, and we are very excited! Finally, three days after our arrival in Canada, we start to breathe in the nature and the sense of freedom that we have dreamed of for so long.
We continue our travel plan by entering Cape Breton Island with the intention of visiting the park of the same name on the only sunny day ahead of us. We stop to sleep in Inverness, next to the Cabot Cape Breton, where the view is magnificent and will give us a wonderful sunrise.
